Oct. 16, 2013—Alexandre Dossin, associate professor of piano performance and piano literature, just returned from a trip to the southeastern United States. Dossin, a guest of the Louisiana Music Teachers Association State Convention, was awarded honorary citizenship by Mayor Randy Roach of Lake Charles, Louisiana.

Oct. 3, 2013—A recent article on the Oregon ArtsWatch website lauds the SOMD for live-streaming numerous events from Beall Concert Hall.

The SOMD's live-stream project, which launched during the 2012-13 academic year, allows users to enjoy many Beall Concert Hall offerings from the their own computer or mobile device, free of charge. The live-stream is linked from the SOMD Concerts and Events calendar webpage.

Oct. 1, 2013—Assistant Professor of Dance Shannon Mockli was profiled recently in The Register-Guard, the local daily newspaper of Eugene, Ore, the hometown of the UO School of Music and Dance.

The article, written by Register-Guard arts reporter Randi Bjornstad, details Mockli's career as a dancer and educator amidst the challenge of a heart ailment.

Sept. 27, 2013—We are saddened to report that Philip Frohnmayer, MMus 1972, passed away today, Friday, Sept. 27.

A native Oregonian and a Professor of Voice at Loyola University in New Orleans, Frohnmayer was named a Distinguished Alumnus of the UO School of Music and Dance in 2012. More information on the life of Philip Frohnmayer is available on the on the website of The Times-Picayune.

Sept. 15, 2013—Associate Professor Rodney Dorsey will be joining the performance faculty teaching conducting and directing the Oregon Wind Ensemble. Assistant Professor Juan Eduardo "Ed" Wolf will take over ethnomusicology from Dr. Mark Levy, who retired last spring.
May 6, 2013—The University of Oregon Chamber Choir has placed first in a major international competition.
Feb. 1, 2013—Assistant Professor of Music Education Frank Diaz has accepted the conductor position for the Corvallis Youth Symphony of Corvallis, Ore. Diaz's tenure as conductor will start on June 1, 2013. As part of his duties for the CYS, Diaz will rehearse the student musicians weekly, and will conduct two formal concerts annually, as well as the organization's Classical Cabaret each March.
EUGENE, Ore.—(July 24, 2013)—The University of Oregon School of Music and Dance was instrumental in the creation of the music behind “Capoeira: Fly Away Beetle,” an award-winning documentary recently released for online download and rental. The film’s score was composed by Brian McWhorter, associate professor of trumpet at the University of Oregon.
The upcoming New York Musical Theatre Festival production of Swiss Family Robinson: A Musical Adventure will feature choreography by UO Associate Professor Walter Kennedy. The production will run for five performances from July 9 through 17, at the new Pershing Square Signature Center, 480 West 42nd Street in New York City.

Assistant Professor of Music Theory Roger Mathew Grant has been published in the spring 2013 issue of Music Theory Spectrum, the top journal in the field of music theory.
