Grant published in top journal

Assistant Professor of Music Theory Roger Mathew Grant has been published in the spring 2013 issue of Music Theory Spectrum, the top journal in the field of music theory. Grant's article "Ad infinitum: Numbers and Series in Early Modern Music Theory" demonstrates how changing concepts of numbers in the sixteenth, seventeenth, and eighteenth centuries allowed for new understandings of the harmonic series, or overtones. The connection of music theory and early modern mathematics is an ongoing research concern for Grant; his article "Leonhard Euler's Unfinished Theory of Rhythm" will appear in the forthcoming 2013 issue of The Journal of Music Theory, another leading theory publication. The article will complete a theory that was first sketched by Euler, and eminent mathematician of the eighteenth century.
