Paul recognized with Faculty Excellence Award

October 20, 2014—Sharon J. Paul, professor of music and chair of the UO’s Vocal Performance and Choral Arts area, is a 2014-15 Fund for Faculty Excellence awardee.

The fund is designed to enhance the university’s strategic commitment to improve its overall academic quality and reputation by supporting, recognizing, and retaining world-class tenured faculty. Fund for Faculty Excellence recipients receive a one-time salary stipend of $20,000.

Paul was characteristically modest in describing her response to the award.

“I was greatly flattered to be recognized for my work,” said Paul. “I am fortunate to work with dedicated and talented students. They are hard working, intelligent, curious, and hungry to learn, which has challenged me to continue to evolve and develop as an educator.”

Professor Paul is an accomplished choral conductor. In May 2013, the UO Chamber Choir, under Paul's direction, won the Fleischmann Trophy at the Cork International Choral Festival. In April 2011, the UO Chamber Choir, again under her direction, took top honors in two categories (Renaissance/Baroque and Chamber Choir) at the 12th International Tallinn Choir Festival in Tallinn, Estonia.
