Performance Studies
Performance study is strongly emphasized at the School of Music and Dance. You may study any band or orchestral instrument as well as piano, organ, voice, harpsichord, harp, tabla, and both acoustic and electric guitar.
Enrollment in any performance studies sequence must be preceded by an audition. Auditions are conducted to establish details (e.g., level, credits) for registration. Auditions also precede advancement from one level to another.
Performance studies carries 2-4 credits a term. Students giving recitals must be enrolled in performance studies and may enroll in Reading and Conference during the term of the recital. The number of credits, up to 4, for Reading and Conference is determined by the instructor. Prerecital auditions are required to evaluate the student's readiness for public performance. After the recital a faculty evaluation is required. If approval is given, the recital is formally acknowledged as a fulfilled degree requirement.
Enrollment in performance studies is sometimes limited because of faculty teaching loads. Under such circumstances, priority is given to continuing music majors.
