Responsible for studio, general and concert tunings; voicing, regulation, and rebuilding; long-range planning and keyboard inventory management. Harpsichord tuning.

Alan Phillips rejoined the School of Music staff as piano technician January 2006 and previously from 1989 to 1996. He has also been the tuner-technician for M. Steinert and Sons Steinway Dealers in Boston, Robert Smith Forte-Piano Builder in Massachusetts, and a freelance tuner-technician for Lane Community College, several churches, Don Lawson's Keyboard Center in Eugene, and school districts in Eugene, Cottage Grove, Florence, Harrisburg, and Fern Ridge.

Phillips studied music education and horn at the University of Oregon 1978-1983 and was a student of horn professor Ed Kammerer. He also received certificates of graduation from the North Bennet Street School in Boston covering all aspects of piano and harpsichord tuning and rebuilding.

He is the leader of the acoustic string band SWANG and was a former member of the Emerald City Jazz Kings and The Black Swan Classic Jazz Band on guitar, banjo, and vocals.
