Bryant Henderson is Graduate Teaching Fellow and MFA candidate in the University of Oregon's Department of Dance, and is also a Graduate Certificate Candidate in the Women's and Gender Studies program at UO. Bryant’s thesis research focuses on gaining a deeper, more profound understanding of male dancers’ experiences in collegiate dance programs in order to support and encourage male dance populations. He recently presented the preliminary phases of his research at the 2016 National Dance Education Organization conference in Arlington, VA.
Henderson is originally from Sylacauga, Alabama, and has studied extensively as a dancer and choreographer in ballet, jazz, modern, hip-hop, musical theatre, contemporary, and aerial dance. He received his BA in Dance and Public Relations from The University of Alabama. Bryant has worked with the Miss Alabama/Miss Oregon/Miss America Pageant systems as a performer, choreographer, and producer; served as a counselor for the American Ballet Theatre Summer Intensive at UA; interned at Broadway Dance Center in NYC, and served as a guest artist at several studios and colleges.
Henderson’s choreography has been seen throughout Alabama, appeared at the American College Dance Festival, and in New York City. His work ranges from concert dance to full musical productions. Henderson has choreographed for musicals such as Joseph and The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Hair, and Wild Party. While residing in New York City, Henderson performed with SYREN Modern Dance, BEings Dance, DEMA Dance, and J. Chen Project in venues including New York’s City Center, The Joyce SoHo, NYC Times Square, and The Baryshnikov Performing Arts Center.
Also, Henderson toured the world as a dancer and aerialist for Celebrity Cruises and POET Theatricals, and was a guest artist for the Birmingham, Alabama aerial-ballet company, AROVA Contemporary Ballet. Bryant has been a guest-teaching artist for The University of Alabama and Shelton State Community College, and in 2014 Henderson served as the Assistant Director and Jazz Faculty member for The American Ballet Theatre Summer Intensive in Tuscaloosa.
During summers 2015 and 2016 Bryant joined the faculty at the Boulder Jazz Dance Workshop and performed with the resident company Interweave Dance Theatre in Boulder, Colorado. During 2016 he served as the coordinator for BJDW's inaugural Commercial Dance Intensive held in conjunction with Celebrity Cruises. Currently, Henderson is on faculty at All That Dance (Eugene, OR) and often teaches at Eugene Ballet Academy.
