Paul Krueger currently holds the position of adjunct instructor of jazz studies at the School of Music and Dance at the University of Oregon. A native of Lincoln, Nebraska, Krueger received his bachelor's degree in music education from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in May, 2009. He received his master's degree in music performance from the University of Oregon in June, 2011. As adjunct instructor of jazz studies, Krueger teaches the Oregon Jazz Ensemble, Jazz Repertoire, Advanced Jazz Arranging, Jazz Performance Lab, Jazz Combo, and private lessons.
Prior to his instructor position, Krueger was a GTF in the Jazz Studies department at the University of Oregon, where he taught Jazz Lab Band II, Jazz Combo, and private lessons. He received the GTF award for outstanding ensemble/performance teaching and two student awards for outstanding performer in brass and outstanding performer in jazz studies. Under his direction, UO Jazz Lab Band II was awarded third place in the "4 Year College Big Band" category at the 2011 Reno Jazz Festival.
As a performing musician, Krueger has been named "Outstanding Soloist" at the Kansas University and Greeley Jazz Festivals, and was named "Outstanding College Trumpeter" at the Reno Jazz Festival. While in school, he performed with Maria Schneider, Stefon Harris, Donny McCaslin, John Riley and Steve Wilson, among many other renowned artists. Krueger also leads several of his own groups, and will release his first album in November, 2011, featuring eight original compositions performed by his quartet.
As a composer, Krueger's music has been performed by artists such as Dave Pietro, and is featured on UNL Jazz Ensemble I's album, Beyond the Plains. His music has been featured at the Greeley Jazz Festival, the Reno Jazz Festival, and at the Oregon Jazz Festival.
