Famed cellist Zeigler visits for residency

Feb. 14, 2014—Starting Tuesday, Feb. 18, the University of Oregon is honored to welcome the celebrated cellist Jeffrey Zeigler for a special weeklong residency at the School of Music and Dance.

The UO School of Music and Dance has named Zeigler a 2014 Robert M. Trotter Visiting Professor, a mark of distinction reserved for honored guest artists and scholars. Zeigler’s time on campus will include two public performances in historic Beall Concert Hall, as well as a more informal master class that will be free and open to the public.

“A visit by a cellist for the Kronos Quartet is cause for celebration,” said David Riley, associate professor of collaborative piano and Zeigler’s frequent artistic partner. “We’re particularly pleased that Jeff will perform works by our own UO composers, a great honor for our composition students.”

Zeigler was cellist for the famed Kronos Quartet, one of the most celebrated and influential ensembles of our time, for eight seasons, and has performed thousands of concerts worldwide. He has released over a dozen recordings, is the recipient of notable prizes and awards, and has appeared as a soloist with numerous symphonies. Zeigler holds a Bachelor of Music degree from the Eastman School of Music at the University of Rochester and a Master of Music degree from the Shepherd School of Music at Rice University.

Zeigler’s Feb. 18 master class and Feb. 19 student composition concert will be open admission, free of charge. Tickets for the Feb. 21 paid admission event are available at the door or in advance from the UO Ticket Office, 541-346-4363.
