The Czech Nonet

SUNDAY, OCTOBER 4 | 2009
Tickets: $40, $35, $30, $20

With its nine players creating an abundance of rich and colorful tonalities, the Czech Nonet is one of the world’s oldest and most original chamber ensembles. Founded in 1924, the Nonet has earned accolades through a world war, an oppressive communist regime, and the Velvet Revolution. With its current personnel, it continues as an important interpreter of classic repertoire and an ardent champion of new music. In this program, the Nonet reveals the exuberance and vitality of composers influenced by Eastern European folk music. Special guest Richard Ormrod is winner of five major international prizes and has been a featured soloist in three international tours with the Czech Philharmonic Chamber Orchestra.

"The Nonet's diverse instruments were perfectly balanced, the musicians made countless lovely blends from their timbres, and their performances sang with infectious joy in musicmaking. It was a treat to hear them."
