Community Music Institute Celebrates Twenty Years

April 7, 2014—In 2013, the UO’s Community Music Institute (CMI) celebrated two decades of providing high-quality string instruction to students ages four and older in Eugene and the surrounding community.

Composed of SOMD faculty members, graduate students, and professional community music educators, the CMI staff is dedicated to providing comprehensive string instrument instruction. Designed to develop musicianship, exceptional instrumental skill, and a lifelong appreciation of the musical arts, the program caters to students at all levels.

"The program excels at providing young musicians the opportunity to grow in so many ways," said Lille Manis, assistant director of CMI. "We are thrilled to celebrate twenty years of teaching our students that 'every child can!'"

To celebrate their milestone, the faculty, staff, and students of CMI are planning an anniversary concert, featuring the Suzuki Strings and Chamber Players ensembles, as well as special guests. Concert details for this free event are available on our web calendar.
