The studio guitar performance degree focuses on a broad study of American and popular guitar styles, including jazz, rock, fingerstyle, blues, rhythm and blues, and Brazilian. Students learn music reading, as well as a wide-ranging vocabulary of chords, scales, arpeggios, and techniques needed to play in a variety of styles,
from small groups to solo.
Workshops highlight the talents of some of the best players in the business. Recent presenters include Cameron Morgan, John Stowell, Sean McGowan, Richard Smith, Francesco Buzzurro, and Terry Haggerty.
The UO offers undergraduate music performance degrees in classical guitar and studio guitar.
Guitarists are encouraged to audition for small and large jazz ensembles, as well as form their own bands and recording projects. Local gig opportunities include jazz clubs, coffee houses, house concerts, and private functions.
