Important Dates for Fall 2018 Graduate Music Applicants

These dates apply to applicants with intended enrollment in Fall 2018.

PLEASE NOTE THE GRADUATE MUSIC ADMISSIONS APPLICATION WILL BECOME AVAILABLE SEPTEMBER 15, 2017.

  • December 10, 2017: Deadline for admissions application and accompanying materials for those who wish to be considered for Graduate Employee positions and scholarships for Fall 2018
  • December 10, 2017: Deadline for uploading audio and video recordings required for saxophone and jazz studies pre-screenings
  • December 10, 2017: Deadline for Graduate Employee (GE) applications
  • December 10, 2017: Deadline for doctoral supporting area applications for choral conducting and violin-viola pedagogy
  • February 2, 2018: Deadline to upload recorded auditions and Intermedia Music Technology (IMT) portfolios
  • February 3, 2018: Audition day
  • February 10, 2018: Audition day
  • February 24, 2018: Audition day
  • Mid-March of 2018: School of Music and Dance mails letters of acceptance, as well as most scholarship and GE offers
  • April 15, 2018: Deadline to accept graduate admissions and financial aid offers

How to Apply

Step 1: Review Requirements

Review the application requirements that pertain to you:

PLEASE NOTE THE GRADUATE MUSIC ADMISSIONS APPLICATION WILL BECOME AVAILABLE SEPTEMBER 15, 2017.

Submit an online University of Oregon application for graduate admission and a non-refundable application fee: $70 domestic applicants; $90 (USD) international applicants. The online application will automatically waive the fee for applicants who indicate they have previously attended the UO as an admitted graduate student.

Step 2: Transcripts to the University of Oregon

Mail a copy of official transcripts to the Office of Admissions and the SOMD. These transcripts should be from institutions other than University of Oregon.

Step 3 GRE Scores: (Doctoral Non-performance Applicants Only)

The following degree progrgams require GRE Scores:

  • PhD Composition
  • DMA Composition
  • PhD Music Education
  • PhD Musicology
  • PhD Music Theory

Doctoral Performance and Masters degrees do not require GRE scores.

Students who are applying for admission should take the GRE in time for their scores to be available to the graduate awards selection committee. Scores must come directly from the Educational Testing Service. Please instruct ETS to send scores electronically to the University of Oregon Graduate School code #4846.

Step 4 Doctoral Supporting Area 

Doctoral applicants wishing to apply to supporting areas should complete the doctoral supporting area application.

International Applicants

  • Non-native English speakers must fulfill the language proficiency requirement.
    • Master's degree applicants: TOEFL score 88 IBT (575 paper-based); or IELTS score 7.0.
    • Doctoral degree applicants: TOEFL score 100 IBT (600 paper-based)or  IELTS score 7.0.
    • Degree from an English-speaking country: Submit degree transcripts reflecting conferral of a bachelors degree or higher from a regionally accredited U.S. institution or from an institution in the following countries: Australia, Canada (excluding Quebec), Ireland, New Zealand, or the United Kingdom.

International Transcripts

All international graduate applicants must have a credential that is equivalent to a U.S. four-year bachelor’s degree. These credentials must be received from an institution recognized by the country's educational body that oversees institutional approval, such as the Ministry of Education. 
 
Two (2) copies of the following documents should be requested. 
  • Official transcripts
  • Certified English translations of all college or university work
  • If the degree and conferral date do not appear on the transcripts, you must request official degree certificates with certified English translations.
