Graduate Admissions

For Dance Department admissions information click here. Dance students admitted to the University of Oregon do not need to apply to the School of Music.

Important Deadlines for Fall 2013 Applicants:
To be assured consideration for scholarships and teaching fellowships for 2013-14, your admissions application and accompanying materials must be submitted or postmarked by December 10.

December 10 Postmark deadline for sending audio/video files required for FLUTE, SAXOPHONE and JAZZ STUDIES pre-screenings.
December 10 Postmark/submission deadline for admissions application and accompanying materials for those who want to be considered for scholarships and teaching fellowships for FALL 2013.
February 2 Graduate Auditions (no bassoon)
February 23 Graduate Auditions
March-April Acceptance and Scholarship decisions sent out.
April 15 Council of Graduate Schools Financial Aid Resolution Deadline.

HOW TO APPLY

    1. Submit an online UO Application for Graduate Admission and $50 (U.S.) non-refundable application fee. If you are unable to access the online admission application, please contact the Music Admissions Office for assistance. Students who have attained their master's degree from the University of Oregon can apply for a fee waiver (available via the online application).

      The online application will request that you:

      • Download two letters of recommendation requests.
      • Upload your resumé
      • Upload your statement of purpose
      • Upload a sample of scholarly writing
      • Provide concert or recital programs (optional for intermedia music technology, music education, musicology, music theory, and piano pedagogy)
      • Upload unofficial transcripts
    1. Submit by mail official transcripts from institutions (other than University of Oregon) where you have earned a degree to:

    1. For Doctoral Applicants ONLY: Submit GRE Scores.
      Students who are applying for admission should take the GRE in time for their scores to be available to the graduate awards selection committee. Scores must come directly from the Educational Testing Service. Please instruct ETS to send scores electronically to the University of Oregon Graduate School code # 4846.
    1. For International or Non-Native English Speakers:

      a. Non-native English Speakers must fulfill the language proficiency requirement. Click here for more information. Important Note: For admission to the music doctoral program, a TOEFL score of 600 (Paper) or 100 (IBT) is required.
