Phase
One Site Plan: $15.2 Million
BOORA Architects, together with the University of Oregon Planning
Office and School of Music faculty and staff, developed the conceptual
design direction for a proposed addition and renovation to the
existing school to address pressing space needs. New construction
of 30,000 square feet and major renovation of approximately 15,000
square feet of existing space will total 90,000 square feet,
essentially adding half again the amount of space the building
presently offers. Plans are presented here for the $15.2 million
project. (The existing building is depicted in gray in the diagram).
Legislative Bonding
for $7.6 million
The University of Oregon has received legislative bonding from
the State of Oregon for half of the school's $15.2 million
project. In order to capture the $7.6 million in bonding, $7.6
million needs to be raised from private sources — generous
friends and alumni of the School and University. To date, we
have $7.6 million in commitments, but anticipate additional
fundraising needs of approximately $3 million to equip the
building appropriately and cover inflation by the time construction
begins. Additionally, a $400,000 bequest has been secured.

Comprehensive
Site Plan
As part of the building plan analysis, a
comprehensive building and site plan for
the School of Music was developed. This plan
addresses anticipated space needs by the
year 2008, the estimated completion date
for the project. Included in the 2008 comprehensive
plan is a new 800-seat concert hall to provide
adequate stage size, acoustical volume, and
audience capacity for the School of Music’s
larger orchestral and choral performances.
Additional small and large practice rooms,
additional faculty and GTF studios and offices,
and selective renovation of the existing
building are also components of this phase
of the plan. The total projected cost for
the 2008 comprehensive plan is estimated
at approximately $53 million. Based on the
established project budget of $15.2 million,
a Phase One Plan was developed to address
the School’s highest priority needs.
Although a high priority, the performance
hall alone exceeds the budget so it is not
feasible for inclusion in Phase One. |
