Student Concerto/Aria Competition
Eligibility | Procedure

Eligibility: Any University of Oregon student, currently enrolled for credit in performance studies with a member of the School of Music faculty may apply. Previous winners of this contest are not eligible.

Procedure:

  1. Student and teacher decide on repertoire. All repertoire must be approved in advance by the orchestra conductor. Submit your form to Steve Vacchi who will contact Dr. Bennett for approval.
  2. Applications are to be submitted to the chair of the Performance Department. Application forms are available from the School of Music receptionist.
  3. Preliminary auditions, within each performance area (strings, brass, percussion, woodwinds, voice, and keyboards), are to be scheduled and judged by the faculty of each area. Each area chairperson will submit names and repertoire of their finalists.
  4. Number of winners will be determined by the judges after hearing the contestants.
  5. Repertoire may be one or more movements of a work for solo with orchestra. Total time available on the concert is approximately 30 minutes. Time for each performer will be determined by number of winners chosen and repertoire.
  6. Performance by memory or by score is at the discretion of the studio instructor.
