WHO MAY ATTEND?

A signature from your band director on the application form will serve as your recommendation and is required. Parent/guardian permission is also required.

COURSES AND ACTIVITIES
In addition to performing in one of two concert bands, students will also perform in a chamber ensemble. Chamber ensembles range from trios to octets, and are coached by our performance faculty.

Elective courses are offered each morning, and vary from music theory to conducting, reed-making, arranging, improvisation, and breathing techniques. For music theory, a short placement exam is given on the first day to determine level.

All campers will participate in master classes taught by our professional performance faculty on each instrument. Master classes offer opportunities for students to receive individual instruction on their instrument in front of a small group of their peers. Private lessons may also be available during the week of camp. Contact the camp administrator for details.

Each evening, students will attend and participate in our Evening Concert Series. A different musical offering is featured each night including a Faculty Recital, Student Solo Recital (selected campers), Student Chamber Ensembles (all campers), and the All-Star Jazz Ensemble.

Recreational activities are also offered and include swimming, frisbee, volleyball, movies, and a Friday night outdoor barbeque. Students also enjoy taking group trips to the ice cream shoppe, playing board games, and relaxing outdoors on the beautiful UO campus.

2008 Camp Application Materials

Deadlines: All application materials must be received by June 15, 2008. Late applications will be accepted on a space-available basis only.

Live Placement Audition: On the day you arrive at camp, you will play a short audition consisting of a short etude or solo.

All-star Jazz Ensemble Auditions: If you are interested in playing in the All-star Jazz Ensemble, come prepared to play a second placement audition. If you improvise, the auditioner may ask you to play some simple changes (blues, for example). If you do not improvise, just pick a short excerpt which shows a basic swing style. If you haven't played jazz before but want to give it a try, that's okay too! Just bring a short “classical” etude or solo to play.
