Williams (trombone)
Performance studies in Brass at the University of
Oregon offer a wide range of opportunities for both music majors
and non-majors. Private lessons are offered on all instruments
by professional artist/teachers who are members of the Oregon
Brass Quintet, and who perform in many other venues nationally
and internationally.
Students have the opportunity to participate in studio
classes, chamber music ensembles, trumpet ensemble, horn ensemble,
trombone ensemble, tuba-euphonium ensemble, brass ensemble, and
brass choir. The School of Music and Dance offers excellent large
ensemble opportunities including the University Symphony, under
the direction of Wayne
Bennett; the Oregon Wind Ensemble conducted by Robert
Ponto; the Symphonic Band directed by Timothy
Paul ; and jazz bands and combos under the direction of Steve
Owen.
The School of Music and Dance offers many special
events of interest to brass players. Some of the recent events
include the International Horn Workshop in 1996, performances and
master classes by the American Brass Quintet, John Marcellus, Cameron
Gates (Principal tuba - Marine Band), Conrad Herwig, and the Northwest
Horn Workshop featuring Dave Krehbiel and Thomas Bacon.
