Kathleen Pengelly

Kathleen Pengelly is an instructor of music education and teaches
music fundamentals for elementary education majors. Before joining
the UO faculty in 1999, Pengelly taught music and elementary classroom
in the public schools for more than thirty years.
Pengelly received
a B.Mus. degree from Lawrence University in Appleton, Wisconsin,
and a M.Mus. degree from the University of Oregon. She attended
Western Oregon State College, where she also earned certification
to teach all subjects in the K-8 classroom.
In addition to teaching,
Pengelly has supervised student teachers, coordinated practicum
students, and served on the boards of many local arts organizations.
She belongs to MENC, OMEA, NEA, OEA, and AASA. She has served
as a board member and elementary chair for Oregon Music Educators
Association (OMEA).
Pengelly is the music facilitator for the
Eugene Public Schools, and is a current member of the education
committees of the Oregon Bach Festival and the Eugene Symphony.
As an instructor at the School of Music and Dance, Pengelly encourages
future teachers to include music in their elementary classrooms.
She promotes the idea of listening to classical music, teaching
singing games, singing and using music concepts to enhance academic
skills.
