David Doerksen

David Doerksen is associate professor emeritus
in music education. He received his B.M.E.
from Willamette University, his M.M. from the
University of Southern California, and his
D.M.A. from the University of Oregon.
He was district music coordinator for the
Salem School district for nine years. He also
served two years as the district's coordinator
of staff development and teacher effectiveness.
Doerksen also has held teaching positions in
the public schools of Joseph, McMinnville,
and Beaverton, and was an adjunct professor
at Linfield College.
As an active member of the Music Educators
National Conference, he has participated in
numerous state, regional, and national professional
meetings. He has been a contributing editor
to the Oregon Music Educator, is a certified
adjudicator for the Oregon Band Directors Association,
and is a member of the American Choral Directors
Association. He also is active as a consultant
to school districts on music teacher evaluation.
Doerksen was honored in 1990 by the National
Federation of State High School Associations
as the Northwest Music Educator of the Year.
In 1992 he was presented the Appreciation Award
by the Oregon Music Educators Association,
citing his work in the area of music teacher
evaluation. Doerksen's book, A Guide to Evaluating
Teachers of Music Performance Groups, was published
in 1990.
